Energy Security – Corrosion Matters

Moves to secure energy for the UK are throwing up some engineering challenges. Members of the Institute of Corrosion and NACE have become aware of premature repairs and maintenance being performed on new generation power plants. Some of these are corrosion challenges and could be met with proven technologies.

The two societies agree that now, as activity in renewable energy generation ramps up and as conventional oil exploration techniques are being supplemented with technology for getting the last drop out of North Sea wells, is a good time to bring those with know-how in energy technology to meet those who have experience of controlling corrosion.

To encourage a dialogue ICorr and NACE have invited specialists in renewable energy, unconventional well technologies, renewable energy sources, power generation and field life extension to debate with members of the corrosion community at a Corrosion Conference. The event will comprise formal presentations and panel discussions.

Lord Oxburgh, who has been actively involved in energy strategy, has agreed to set the scene.

The conference will be held on 17 and 18 June at The Royal Overseas League, London.
