Range of small turbochargers is designed for engines from two to five litres in capacity
Cummins Turbo Technologies has launched a new range of diesel turbochargers designed for diesel engines from two to five litre capacity.
This latest range of small turbochargers has been developed in response to the increasing focus on fuel economy and engine downsizing of Cummins Turbo Technologies’ customers, the company said, and to meet the needs of the global diesel engine market across a range of applications. The range will be launched at IAA Hannover in Germany next month.
The VG turbocharger for 2–5 litre diesel engines features sliding wall design technology. “This sliding wall enables the turbocharger to be used in ways that offer additional benefits to the total vehicle system,” the company said.
The turbocharger can be used to raise the temperature significantly in the exhaust system at engine idle, regenerating the diesel particulate filter without the need for additional dosing systems. Additionally, the design facilitates engine braking, which can also be used to increase the life of the vehicle braking system and help to prolong intervals between servicing.
Jim Lyons, president of Cummins Turbo Technologies, said: “Our wide variety of technical solutions have been successfully developed in close partnership with some of the world’s leading engine and vehicle manufacturers, ensuring that the products are tailored to meet customers’ specific requirements.
“We work hard to understand the duty-cycle requirements of all different applications ensuring that our products are reliable and cost-effective.”
Cummins Turbo Technologies is part of Cummins, the independent maker of diesel engines and related products. The firm was formerly known as Holset Engineering and is based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.
