The Institution has awarded a prestigious Whitworth Scholarship to student Charlotte Brough.

Whitworth Scholarships were presented to just 14 of the top engineering students in the UK at Institution’s Vision Awards ceremony on Wednesday 24 September.

The Scholarship will contribute £2,500 per year towards Charlotte’s, Mechanical Engineering degree at the University of Cumbria. Charlotte attended Walney Secondary School in Cumbria.

President of the Institution Group Commander Mark Hunt, said: “Charlotte has proven herself to be one of the best young engineers in the UK and I was delighted to present them with the Undergraduate Scholarship.

“At a time when the UK is facing a huge skills gap when it comes to young engineers, it’s fantastic to see young people like Charlotte taking their first steps in the profession.

“Engineers are vitally important to the UK economy. They design and develop everything from the cars we drive to the medical equipment used in our hospitals.

“I am confident that Charlotte will enjoy a successful and exciting career in engineering.”

The Whitworth Scholarship Awards are all about enabling outstanding engineers, who have excellent academic and practical skills and the qualities needed to succeed in industry, to take an engineering degree-level programme in any engineering discipline.
