Work is in progress at over 40 sites across London

Construction work on the Crossrail link is taking place at more than 40 sites across London. More than 7,000 people have so far worked a total of 20 million hours on the giant project.

The photograph shows construction activity at Finsbury Circus near Liverpool Street station. Similar station construction is taking place at Paddington, Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road, Farringdon, Whitechapel and Canary Wharf.

Meanwhile, work is under way to create a 1,500-acre wetland nature reserve in Essex, using excavated material from Crossrail tunnelling.

Crossrail should open in 2018, increasing London’s rail-based transport network capacity by 10%.
