Chief Executive, Dr Colin Brown visited Rolls-Royce Deutschland's site at Dahlewitz near Berlin to look at the plant’s world-leading facilities and present certificates to newly Chartered Engineers.
The Institution and Rolls-Royce have a long-standing partnership: Rolls-Royce Deutschland has the highest number of Institution members of any company in Germany.
“It is always a pleasure to present newly Chartered Engineers with their certificates. I am delighted to see the growth in the past few years of our membership in Germany, supported by employers like Rolls-Royce,” Dr Brown said at the awards ceremony.
The Germany Group which was founded 2012, currently has a membership of nearly 500.
The Group, which is led by Dr Andy Storer, organises site visits as well as other activities. Tthis was the third visit by a member of the Institution’s leadership team to Dahlewitz.
During the visit, which was hosted by Alastair McIntosh, Engineering Director for Rolls-Royce Deutschland, Dr Brown saw the new power gearbox test facility which opened recently. The facility will test the new aerospace gearbox, the most powerful in the world, and which is a key component of Rolls-Royce’s new UltraFan engine design.
The new engine, which will be available from 2025, will offer a 25% fuel efficiency improvement over the first generation of Rolls-Royce Trent engine, with power scalable for wide body or narrow body aircraft.
The visit to Dahlewitz followed the launch of the Institution’s report “UK Aerospace: the Impact of Brexit” at an event at the British Embassy in Berlin.
