UAS Challenge Team
Deadline 11 April: get involved in our celebratory year!
As part of preparations for the 10th anniversary of the UAS Challenge, the IMechE is looking for volunteers to help run the competition's exciting fly off event on 1-4 July 2024 at BMFA Buckminster.
Hosting dozens of teams over several days, the competition brings together top young engineering talent from universities around the world to showcase their Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), a drone vehicle capable of autonomous flight and a payload drop designed to simulate a real-world humanitarian aid mission.
Whether you have worked at the event or not; all volunteers will receive a detailed briefing on the morning of Monday 1 July 2024 and will work with experienced colleagues to get up to speed.
To get involved, simply complete the following survey with the area/s that you would like volunteer for and your contact details before the 11 April 2024 deadline
Further details about the volunteering areas are as follows:
Safety Volunteers
In this role you will be part of the team overseeing the hanger area where the students build and repair their UAS. This is a hands-on role where you can get involved with the building and advice. Volunteers must be strong communicators and help the students keep to time.
Flight Scheduling Volunteers
Based between the flight line and hanger, these volunteers must manage the flight schedule for teams and if necessary help them and their UAS transition from hanger to flight line and vice-versa.
Flight Line Safety Volunteers
Volunteers must supervise the flight line area and ensure that no-one goes beyond the safety line unauthorised. Plus, it's a great place to help teams get ready for the UAS flights and watch take offs and landings.
We look forward to receiving your application and have you join our team of volunteers!
