Formula Student
Please tell us about your team, your role within the team and how you all met.
We are 21 Students from Mechanical and Electrical Departments in Cairo University Faculty of Engineering with one goal: to best represent Cairo University in the Formula Student competition. Every year the team opens recruitment, where many students are willing to enter the team. The current team have some old students from the previous year and fresh students who work together harmoniously. My role in the team is Team Leader.
Why have you and your team entered Formula Student?
Formula Student is one of the most famous competitions; by having the chance to compete at Silverstone we will have an unforgettable experience.
Formula Student is just a few months away now. Tell us about your journey so far and what you’ve learnt along the way
The treasure is always in the journey. Last year we won the Most Challenging Team Award from FSG for our extraordinary efforts to join and compete in FSG. Our car is almost ready and we are aiming for the first run on 1 April. We are planning travelling, shipping and accommodation for both Formula Student and the FSG competition; and we're looking for a better season.

We’re really interested to learn more about your car.
Our strength comes from our ability to build simple and cheap cars in a country that doesn’t have an automotive industry. We’ve done many works trying to figure out the most suitable solutions for our case. Our car becomes simpler year after year in order to beat the routine we face and to be a respectable competitor in Formula Student. The 2016 car is the simplest car yet compared to our last two cars which will give us a chance to have enough time for testing.
How did you come up with the design and why did you choose this path?
Rules. Compliance. Simplicity. Finish it early! These are our goals for this year's design, as we want to have enough time for testing and increase both reliability and durability.
What element of the car are you most proud of and why?
We are very proud of our chassis which is the simplest design produced by our team. We didn’t need great efforts or time to manufacture it.

What is it about Formula Student that you’re looking forward to the most?
Formula Student is a real chance for each student to show their creativity and work on a car project. In Egypt, engineers don’t have similar chances, so Formula Student is an educational exercise for us.
And finally… Are you going to win Formula Student 2016?
No, I don’t think so. It’s better to focus on your goals and know your limitations. We don’t have the required experience and the stability many teams have, but our target for this year is to complete all of the dynamic events and be in the top 20.
