35,000-piece model of Tower Bridge

Reigning Young Engineers South East Champions James Pearson and Max McManus show off a 35,000-piece K’Nex construction toy model of Tower Bridge.

The bridge was built as part of this year’s K’Nex Challenge. Young Engineers is responsible for the increasingly popular challenge, which last year saw 55,000 seven to 11-year-olds take part in K’Nex building competitions nationwide.

Young Engineers aims to inspire young people to develop an early interest in engineering, potentially as a future career. The charity’s work is now more vital than ever, with 600,000 new engineers required by 2017, according to Engineering UK.
