Institution member, Richard Pearson CEng FIMechE, recounts the details of David Cameron's recent visit to the plant in Germany.
Richard, who is represented by the Institution's Germany Group and is the BMW Vehicle Assembly Planning Manager, Munich, met with UK Prime Minister, David Cameron, during the 20-minute visit.
Richard said that Mr Cameron met with six apprentices on the tour and had asked them about their experiences of the BMW Group Apprentice Scheme and whether they would remain with BMW following completion.
He said the Prime Minister also met with him and two other Britsh people working at the Munich plant. Richard spoke to Mr Cameron about Premier League and answered Mr Cameron's questions about how many engines were supplied by the BMW factory in the UK.
"He was pleasantly surprised when he was informed that a significant number were used throughout the BMW network," said Richard.
According to Richard, BMW Chairman Harald Krüger also invited Mr Cameron to sit behind the wheel of a right-hand drive BMW M4 Coupe.
