Company to supply control systems for 777X aircraft
The Boeing Company has selected BAE Systems to provide electronic control systems for Boeings 777X passenger aircraft.
The company will develop and produce the Remote Electronic Units (REUs) for both variants of the 777X aircraft, which is due to enter commercial service in 2020.
A REU is an electronic unit that manages the aircraft’s flight control surface actuators, such as the ailerons and rudder, and interfaces with the integrated flight control electronics, which BAE Systems is also providing.
Dr Ehtisham Siddiqui, manager of commercial aircraft solutions at BAE Systems, said: “With this selection, Boeing has entrusted BAE Systems to develop the complete suite of flight control electronics, which are critical to the 777X fly-by-wire system.
“The contract reflects our expertise in high integrity controls and builds on our long-standing relationship with Boeing,”
We look forward to supporting Boeing in introducing this advanced wide-body aircraft to the market in 2020.”
The 777X will be Boeing’s latest twin-aisle aircraft when it enters service in 2020. The company says it will be the largest and most-efficient twin-engine jet in the world, with 12% lower fuel consumption and 10% lower operating costs compared to the competition. The 777X is scheduled to begin production in 2017.
