Hundreds of applications made across marine and technology businesses
Engineering firm Babcock has recruited 161 apprentices across its marine and technology operations in Devonport, Rosyth, Bristol and at the Clyde Naval Base.
The company said this year’s recruitment campaign had attracted hundreds of applications from across the UK. The new recruits, depending on their location, will have work in sectors such as defence, energy, commercial marine and technology.
Jonathan Whitworth, Babcock’s organisation and development director, said: “It’s encouraging to see that we are regarded as an employer of choice the length and breadth of the UK. Our new apprentices will have the opportunity to get involved in many exciting projects and will receive ‘on the job’ and classroom-based training and support and will have the chance to work alongside, and to learn from, colleagues with years of experience, who are enthusiastic about passing on their own knowledge.”
First phase apprentice Christopher Rafter said: "I'm very much looking forward to the next four years as a Babcock apprentice. The welcome and level of support I’ve had has been amazing. Babcock was my first choice employer."
The Babcock Clyde Apprenticeship programme was recently chosen from to receive a Princess Royal Training Award.
