Institution news
The TMMX Awards give you the opportunity to gain valuable business improvement advice and industry-wide recognition for our achievements, your employees, and your business. They exist to encourage, benchmark, and celebrate manufacturing excellence!
Throughout the evening, there were plenty of opportunities for UK businesses of all sizes and sectors to be recognised. The award categories ranged from recognition in innovation and sustainability through to apprenticeships, leadership, and staff engagement.
IMechE President Giles Hartill and IMechE CEO Dr Alice Bunn attended the evening representing the Institution. Giles opened up the ceremony with his welcome speech and presented the Manufacturer of the Year Runner Up award to Druck. IMechE Fellow and Chair of the Manufacturing Industries Board, Konstantinos Salonitis, presented the award for International Trade to Paralloy. Speaking about the ceremony, Konstantinos says:
“The TMMX awards are a great occasion to celebrate and recognise the impact manufacturers have on the engineering industry and to the world. During the evening, I had the opportunity to speak with IMechE members who were nominated for awards, and other inspiring manufacturers who are leading the way.
It is always a pleasure to welcome the winners of IMechE’s Apprentice Automation Challenge to the event. This event is a room full of inspiring companies and people who are keen to hear from those starting out in their careers so it’s a crucial occasion where they can possibly make connections that help in their future careers.”
We would also like to say a huge congratulations to Taahir Patel from LISI Aerospace Rugby (BAIUK) for winning the ‘Young Manufacturer of the Year’ category! Taahir is a keen advocate for STEM education and has been a STEM Ambassador since May this year.
The winners from this year’s IMechE Apprentice Automation Challenge, Team ‘It’s All Under Control’ from Leonardo, attended the awards ceremony. The team, consisting of Peter Metcalfe, Melissa Hobbs, Joseph Grice, Ryan Rickards, Tom Butcher and George Richardson, impressed judges with their automated walking stick equipped with lights and sensors to provide support, StepSmart. They were also appreciated by their peers as they received the Peer Review Award.
The Apprentice Automation Challenge takes place every year at The Manufacturing Technology Centre in Coventry at the end of September, and is a brilliant opportunity for talented apprentices to compete in an innovative design and manufacturing challenge to improve an everyday home or garden device.
