Earlier this year, on 12 February, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers was proud to join the celebrations of the personal achievements of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) engineers and many Institution members at the annual JLR Innovista and Technical Excellence Awards.

The awards, now in their 14th year, celebrate the outstanding technical achievements of JLR individuals across Product Engineering and Design.

This year, the awards recognised 250 engineers, including 22 newly elected Members and Fellows of the Institution.

Director of Membership Operations, Jo Horton, represented the Institution at the awards event, presenting Maurice Kelly C.Eng M.Eng MIMechE MIEI with the Institution’s Mentor of the Year prize, recognising the dedication and hard-work undertaken by volunteer mentors, which often goes unseen.

Jo commented “Mentors contribute so much to both the practical and educational development of graduate engineers. The Institution is proud to partner with and support JLR, both in accrediting JLR’S long-standing Monitored Professional Development Scheme (MPDS) and in this evening’s fantastic celebration of technical and professional excellence”.

Throughout the evening, individuals and teams we recognised for achieving higher education qualifications, black belt certifications and professional accreditation, along with those who had filed five or more patents in the last year.

Engineering teams who have embraced the Era of Engineering, focusing on product delivery, as well as promoting efficiency and collaboration, were also recognised. This year also saw the introduction of six new Directors’ Awards categories – Collaboration, Innovation, Drive, Integrity, Era of Engineering and Pioneer – to replace the individual functional awards that were given in previous years.
