Continuing professional development

As an engineer, maintaining and improving your skills, knowledge and professional standards is essential. With our support, you'll get access to great opportunities to progress and enjoy a fulfilling career.

CPD is a fundamental part of any career in engineering, allowing you to build up your knowledge and experience at work, at the Institution and in your community. It's about learning and developing – however you choose to do it.

f you're a professionally registered member, we strongly recommend that you carry out and record Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities.

How does it work?

CPD is owned, designed and delivered by you. Activities will be unique to you, based on your role, career stage and goals.

For example, you might choose to complete a training programme, learn through peers at work (‘on-the-job learning’) or volunteer to share your knowledge with others. And it’s not just technical training that counts – personal development is important too.
