Independent Safety Assurance Working Group

The Safety and Reliability Group represents the Institution on the Independent Safety Assurance Working Group (ISA WG) which aims to enhance awareness and knowledge of the concept of Independent Safety Assurance in the interests of the engineering profession.

The ISA WG is an inter-institutional group also involving the IET, the BCS and the Safety & Reliability Society and is made up of representatives from many safety-related industry sectors. Safety professionals fulfilling the role of an Independent Safety Assessor or Auditor provide independent safety assurance to the supplier, purchaser and user.

The aims of the Independent Safety Assurance Working Group are:

To promote the ISA role of a safety professional as a means of providing independent safety assurance to the supplier, purchaser and user;
To promote the ISA role of a safety professional in standards;
To support safety professional development by defining minimum standards, identifying training that meets minimum standards and supporting resources;
To provide support for professional ISA's by developing guidance and providing information that affects their role.
