About Safety and Reliability Group

Safety and Reliability Group promotes the development of safety and reliability requirements for products such as equipment, systems or services.

What we do 

    • Provides good practice guides and information to engineers associated with designing, manufacturing, operating or maintaining products.
    • Increases the understanding of risk, while continuing to work on the assessment of hazardous events, dissemination of lessons learned and the promotion of risk reduction strategies.
    • Represent the IMechE on the BSI and IEC committees developing and updating standards on dependability (reliability, maintainability, supportability, and availability).
    • Represents the Institution on the Hazards Forum which provides an interdisciplinary focus for the study of disasters.
    • Organise safety & reliability themed events. We are always keen to receive feedback on our services. Maybe you would like to suggest a subject area for an event?
    • Supports Proceeding of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part O: Journal of Risk and Reliability.
