Regional Education Officer (REO)

Each of the IMechE’s 16 UK regions has a Regional Education Officer (REO) who is a member of their regional committee, working to achieve the Institution’s education and skills goals.

REOs will work with local schools and authorities as well as key national organisations to support STEM Ambassador schemes, outreach, and other educational initiatives. They also have direct links to the Education and Skills Strategy Board as well as Regional Committees.

This role is ideal for a member with a background in or strong affinity to engineering education.

Time commitment and location

On average regional committee meetings happen quarterly and can be in person or virtual. To find out more about your own region, you can visit NEAR YOU. Participation and organising of education related events will also be required.

Requirements and training

Regional Education Officers need to be registered STEM Ambassadors with a current Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Registration is carried out by STEM Learning UK. Find out more about how to register as a STEM Ambassador.

Online GDPR training as you will have access to and use of personal contact information.

The annual in-person REO meeting is hosted in one of the UK regions year year (travel expenses covered).

IMechE Education outreach training is recommended and freely available online.
