Railway Challenge STEM Lead

Lead STEM outreach activities at the annual Railway Challenge Competition hosted in Leicester.

Each annual Railway Challenge cycle kicks-off in October, ending with a final event in late June/early July of the following year.

The Challenge brings together teams of university students, as well as apprentices and graduates working in industry across the world to test their business knowledge, design ability and technical skills in a live test environment.

Local schools and colleges are invited to attend the Railway Challenge final event. At the event they take part in related STEM activities, learn about engineering careers and interact with the Challenge participants and industry experts.

The Railway Challenge STEM Lead is responsible for coordinating the Railway Challenge education outreach programme.

Time commitment and location

There are quarterly Railway steering committee meetings held virtually. The competition is a three -day event each year and hosted in Leicester.

Requirements and training

The Railway Challenge STEM Lead needs be a registered STEM Ambassador with a current Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Registration is carried out by STEM Learning UK. Find out more about how to register as a STEM Ambassador.

Online GDPR training as you will have access to and use of personal contact information.

IMechE Education outreach training is recommended and freely available online, with some face-to-face sessions throughout the year.
