Support Network Trustee

CPD Assessors support the role of the Continuing Professional Development Assessment Committee (CPDAC) to assess the CPD of members registered with the Engineering Council (EngC). They provide valuable feedback to those required to provide their CPD records for audit purposes.

Each year the Institution conducts an annual audit of its member’s CPD records. All submissions received within the annual review period are assessed by CPD Assessors.

To apply to become a CPD Assessor, please complete an application form and submit it to CPD@imeche.org along with a copy of your most recent CV.

About you

To be a CPD Assessor you must be a professionally registered member of the IMechE and be familiar with HR and Learning and Development principles. Experience in providing constructive feedback to others is a must.

What you will do

As a CPD Assessor, you will work on behalf of the CPDAC:

  • To review submissions received from members within the annual audit cycle who require feedback.
  • Provide constructive and respectful feedback to the member, solely designed to help them in the continuous improvement of their CPD.
  • Raise awareness of the importance and value of CPD to the wider engineering community.
  • Share good practice.

How you will benefit

CPD is a fundamental part of any career in engineering, ensuring 'professionally registered and active' engineers keep up to date by constantly learning and improving, developing skills, and staying abreast of innovation.  This will enhance assessors’ contribution to engineering and help individuals get the most out of their careers.

  • Learn from other’s experiences and identify good practices.
  • Broaden professional horizons.
  • Develop interpersonal and soft skills.
  • Review a broad spectrum of engineering practices that you might not otherwise have the opportunity to see.

Being a volunteer also contributes towards your own CPD

How much time it will take

IMechE randomly samples 5% of its professionally registered Members (approx. 2500) each year, with individual feedback being provided to around 1000.

  • CPD Assessors are expected to obtain and review a minimum of one batch of ten CPD assessments per month typically between April and September.
  • Turnaround each batch within a target two-week timeframe.

Where you will be

Assessments are undertaken virtually so can be completed anywhere in the world, at any time.
