The IMechE Railway Challenge has successfully inspired hundreds of young engineers over the past 14 years, offering hands-on experience in railway engineering. Building on this success, the organising committee now aims to expand participation from 14 to 30 teams. To support this growth, key infrastructure upgrades are underway at the Stapleford Miniature Railway, including the addition of a new chord, upgraded switches, and a turntable installation.

To complete this next phase, we are seeking dedicated volunteers to help finalise the turntable and install sections of double track and associated components. This is a valuable opportunity to contribute to a nationally recognised engineering initiative while gaining practical experience in track assembly and railway operations.

Ideally we need people who would be willing to come to Stapleford (near Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire) to help with tasks such as moving, cleaning and assembling the track sections, laying ballast and track and other related activities.

All materials have been purchased and tools and guidance will be provided. Volunteers may camp onsite and basic facilities are available.
