I have been working with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) since April 2023. My latest role focuses on supporting engineers in the Armed Forces and across industry to achieve professional registration at all levels, including EngTech, IEng, CEng, and Fellow. A key part of my role is to actively develop partnerships with industry, armed forces and educational institutions to promote IMechE membership and professional development.
The most rewarding part of my role is meeting engineers from a wide range of industries and specialisms and supporting them on their journey to becoming professionally registered. It’s incredibly fulfilling to help individuals navigate the process, whether they’re aiming for EngTech, IEng, CEng, or Fellow, and to see them succeed in their careers. Knowing that I’ve played a part in helping them gain the recognition they deserve for their skills, experience, and dedication is truly motivating. Every journey is unique, and being able to contribute to their professional growth and development is what makes this role so meaningful and enjoyable.
One of the most memorable highlights of my career has been the opportunity to visit and tour the HMS Prince of Wales (R09) aircraft carrier. This experience offered a rare and fascinating glimpse into the engineering excellence and operational complexity within the Royal Navy. Meeting the engineers and technical personnel working in such demanding environments was both humbling and inspiring. It gave me a deeper appreciation for the critical role engineering plays in national defence and the dedication of those who serve in these roles. Supporting them on their journey to professional registration and helping them gain the recognition they truly deserve is a privilege I don’t take lightly. Personally, it’s visits like this that remind why I chose to work with the IMechE—to make a meaningful impact by empowering engineers to grow, succeed, and be celebrated for their contributions. It’s moments like these that reaffirm the value of what we do at the IMechE and the importance of connecting with people behind the profession.
