Alan KingAlan King

Head of Global Business Development

South Wales Region

Alan joined the Institution of Mechanical Engineers as a Business Development Executive in 2004. With a background in both engineering and business, he brings a knowledgeable blend of skills and experience to the role.

His father, both an engineer and joint owner of an engineering firm, introduced Alan to engineering at an early age. Alan then combined his fascination for the subject with an interest in business at university, studying for a degree in Business Studies followed by a masters in International Business, which included writing a thesis on ‘Mass Customisation in Engineering’.

Since graduating from university, Alan has enjoyed several roles within the engineering and technology sectors. These include leading environmental testing on DAT Tape systems for Hewlett Packard, and working as an Account Director for Strategic Alliance International PR across the company’s various international communications campaigns for technology clients including PricewaterhouseCoopers, Canoga Perkins and Overland.

In his role as Senior Business Development Manager for Global Projects, Alan’s team maintains key relationships with major employers both national and internationally, and also provides support for the UK Armed Forces and MOD.  This drives potential new members to the Institution, from students, apprentices and engineers at all stages of their career. The promotion of IMechE professional registration through tailor-made in-house workshops, group presentations, seminars and events ensures a high level of engagement with key account organisations and IMechE members.
