Review of the Royal Charter and By Laws

Updated 4 February 2022.

The Royal Charter and By-laws is the governing document of the Institution.

Changes to the document can only be made if Corporate Members and Associate members vote to make modifications and those changes are subsequently approved by the Privy Council and an updated Royal Charter and By-laws document is issued.

Changes to the document occur infrequently, the most recent being in 2021 and, before that, in 2014 for the purpose of addressing specific issues at those times.

It is many years since the Royal Charter and By-laws were considered holistically and, for this reason, the President has approved such a review is undertaken jointly by the Trustee Board, Council and staff.

Bridget Eickhoff will lead the review, beginning with a scoping study starting in March.

Progress reports and key documents will be added in due course to this page.
