Helen Meese

Helen is an Electro-Mechanical Power Engineer with over 20 years experience in both academia and industry. Her academic career was spent at Loughborough University researching turbocharger performance and developing electrical defence systems for armoured vehicles. Her industrial career was in the defence industry managing projects on euro-fighter typhoon, submarine systems and naval vessels.

Helen joined the IMechE in 1991 as a student and was Leicester Area Young Members Secretary for three years. She has been actively involved in STEM education and events over the years and has set up two STEM initiatives in Industry; winning recognition from STEM Learning in 2009.

Helen began working for the IMechE in 2013 as Head of Engineering in Society. She became Head of Healthcare Policy in 2015, managing the Institution’s programmes on innovative healthcare technologies and their impact on patient care.

Helen now runs her own medtech consultancy and continues to develop thought leadership across the healthcare sector to raise the profile of biomedical, pharmaceutical, and mechanical engineering.

Since leaving as an employee, Helen has become a member of the BmED Division and PID Group committees, becoming a Trustee in May 2018. As part of her role as Trustee she is also vice-chair of RSB and ESSB.
