Summary

Develop practical vibration analysis skills to diagnose faults in rotating machinery; implement them into your condition monitoring programme, and minimise unplanned downtime and repair costs.

Vibration monitoring is the primary tool for Condition Monitoring of industrial rotating machinery. This course focuses on a practical approach to Vibration analysis in the context of fault identification and diagnosis on rotating machinery as part of a Condition Monitoring Programme.

A wide range of faults that impact reliability produce distinctive vibration signatures, and high vibration can also be a cause of unreliability in rotating machinery.

Knowledge of machinery vibration behaviour is valuable for early fault detection, allowing proactive action to be taken to prevent in-service failure, and for diagnostics and problem-solving of damaging vibrations. This allows for timely repairs, reducing maintenance costs and maximising the lifespan of equipment.

Although vibration analysis is a mature subject, digitalisation has multiplied the information to be analysed, due to the wider variety and number of machines fitted with vibration sensors. Maintenance engineers are being asked to assess and react with predictive maintenance strategies. Successfully doing so, leads to early fault detection, reduced downtime and optimised performance.

There is a shortage of engineers who are skilled in machinery vibration analysis. This course covers a range of topics from ISO 18436-2:2014 Cat I to Cat III in a condensed format, allowing non-specialists to gain a better understanding of the data, its interpretation, and potential limitations, and provides a structured approach to diagnostics.

Attendees will learn a proven approach for identifying, assessing the severity of and diagnosing the causes of problems in rotating machinery using vibration analysis. This will provide increased confidence when handling data from Wireless systems, interpreting reports from service providers and consultants, or in making and interpreting their own measurements.

Who should attend?

This course is designed for Engineers wanting to implement vibration monitoring as a condition monitoring tool, engineers wanting to interpret data from online monitoring systems, or engineers wanting to acquire vibration diagnostics skills.,

Job titles
  • Maintenance Engineer
  • Reliability Engineer
  • Mechanical Engineer
  • Rotating Equipment Engineer
  • Field Service Engineer
Some basic understanding of Vibration is assumed: pre-attendance self-study materials can be made available covering the relevant concepts.

How will I benefit?

After the course you will be able to:

  1. Implement vibration monitoring techniques
  2. Understand how vibration analysis helps optimise maintenance schedules by focussing efforts on equipment showing signs of potential failure
  3. Learn how to use vibration analysis to pinpoint inefficiencies in machinery
  4. Be an informed customer for machinery diagnostic services
  5. Build stronger vibration monitoring programmes
  6. Enhance problem solving capabilities
  7. More effective machinery troubleshooting
  8. Increase career opportunities
Contributes 14 CPD hours
