How important are engineers and your technical staff to your business/sector?
Engineers are essential to Ocean Installers continued success and development. They make up 54% of our workforce of 340, which says everything about how vital they are to our success today and our growth for the future. Their curiosity, creativity, and technical expertise drive every project we deliver. We’re incredibly proud of the impact our engineers make, not just in solving complex challenges, but in shaping a culture of learning, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Their development is central to our business, and we’re committed to giving them the support, recognition, and opportunities they deserve.
How does professional registration benefit your company, staff, sector?
Professional registration is a powerful way of supporting our people and strengthening our organisation. It gives our engineers a clear pathway for growth, helps build confidence, and recognises the high standards they work to every day.
For Ocean Installer, it benchmarks our engineers against UK SPEC competences and brings the reassurance of independent peer review. It reinforces our commitment to quality, consistency, and professional excellence across the business. Most importantly, it shows our people that we believe in their potential and are invested in their long term development.
Why did you decide to become a Membership Partner with the IMechE?
We became a Membership Partner with the IMechE because we care about nurturing our engineers and giving them the very best support throughout their careers. The IMechE’s values around excellence, ethics, learning, and professional growth align closely with our own. This partnership gives our people access to structured development, mentoring, CPD, and a clear route to professional registration. It builds confidence and opens doors.
Our Engineering Director already volunteers as a PRI Assessor and along with other senior engineers works closely with the IMechE, mentoring engineers, guiding them towards Chartership, and, so becoming a Membership Partner felt like the natural next step. It demonstrates our commitment to our engineers’ progression and our belief in investing in people.
How do you envisage this partnership will help your business and staff?
At Ocean Installer, we want to attract, develop, and retain the very best engineers to support our ongoing and future subsea construction projects. The Membership Partnership will help us do that. It strengthens our learning culture, enhances our development pathways, and provides the professional recognition and support that engineers value.
By investing in their growth, we’re also investing in the long-term success and resilience of our business. Ultimately, this partnership helps us build a workplace where people feel valued, supported, and excited about their future with us.
What are/will be the most important benefits of working with IMechE?
The IMechE brings expertise, guidance, and a level of professional support in our industry. Being able to draw on that knowledge helps us strengthen our own engineering capability and enrich the development experience for our staff.
A major benefit is the opportunity to help shape and support the next generation of engineers. Through IMechE resources, standards, and mentoring pathways, we’re able to support engineers build their confidence, skills, and gain recognition.
