Design Challenge STEM Lead
Lead STEM outreach activities at the annual Design Challenge Competition Final.
The Design Challenge gives students from universities and university technical colleges (UTCs) a taste of ‘real world’ engineering, challenging them to design, create, present and run a device to a strict technical specification.
The Challenge is open to teams of 2-6 students from universities or UTCs. Teams in the UK will compete in regional competitions from March to June, leading to a national final for the regional winners, hosted at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in London, at the start of the following academic year.
Local schools and colleges are invited to attend the Design Challenge national finals. At the event they take part in related STEM activities, learn about engineering careers and interact with the Challenge participants and industry experts.
The Design Challenge STEM Lead is responsible for coordinating the Design Challenge education outreach programme.
Time commitment and location
There are quarterly DC steering committee meetings held virtually. The finals day is a one-day event and hosted at IMechE London HQ
