The Derek George Astridge Safety in Aerospace Award (Serial 268) is funded from The General Trust Fund

Trust Conditions

"The late Derek George Astridge has bequested a sum of money in his will to the Institution which will be received on the death of his widow Mrs Margaret Astridge. Mrs Astridge set up this award in her late husband’s name, a former Chairman of and member of the Transmissions Technical Activity Committee of the Aerospace Division.

Derek was an engineer of international repute, he joined Westland from Rolls-Royce Engines in 1975 and he contributed much to their engine bearing technology and was instrumental in establishing a Mechanical Engineering Research Department there."

Award Conditions

A shield and medal are to be awarded annually for the best paper or to a person or persons who is/are considered to have made a useful contribution to technology relating to safety in aerospace including the widening of professional and public awareness of such technology.
