AMIMechE status

As an Associate Member, you are entitled to add the post-nominal ‘AMIMechE’ after your name. This signifies your status within the engineering community, and sends a message to colleagues, management and potential employers about your commitment to your career. This is your first step in gaining professional registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng).

Associate Members gain access to a series of exclusive events. Regularly attending these keeps you on top of the latest industry news and views, hones your networking skills, and helps you meet like-minded individuals and even potential employers.

Training and development opportunities

Your Associate membership is also your ticket to a wide range of learning opportunities through the Institution. These range from specific industry conferences to lectures, webinars, training courses and more. You can also learn online with the Institution's e-learning options.

Your membership entitles you to discounted rates on the training courses and events specifically designed for Associate Members by senior professional engineers, which can be run for you at your company, in any part of the world.

Online resources

You have full access to our Virtual Library, with more than 30,000 text books, journals and reports online, including key handbooks, standards, conference proceedings and journals, meaning a vast number of engineering materials are just a click away. 

If you're in the UK, you can visit the library at our offices in central London, or use our postal loans service to get the materials you need, when you need them.

Professional Engineering (PE)

You can download the Professional Engineering app, to stay up-to-date with technical, educational, professional and political issues affecting the profession and the latest engineering news and features and developments in the industry. We will also send you a monthly copy of Professional Engineering magazine if you are based in the UK. In addition, you can subscribe to Institution updates relevant to your engineering interests.

World Bulletin

If you're not based in the UK, you may sign up to receive the World Bulletin newsletter, which delivers engineering and Institution news directly to your inbox. You can also subscribe to receive Institution updates.

Members' Business Centre

Members Business Centre

If you’re in the UK, you are entitled to use our Business Centre in central London which offers hot-desking, with free wi-fi, tea and coffee-making and printing facilities.

You can also hire catered meeting rooms at heavily discounted rates.

Scholarships and awards

We award £800,000 every year to graduates and experienced engineers. When you become an Associate Member, you may be eligible to apply for scholarships that can help in funding your Postgraduate Masters' degree or other educational or development needs or volunteering activities and projects.
