The MSc Professional Engineering, available to study part time through online distance learning was developed with the Engineering Council as part of the Engineering Gateway Programme. It is ideal for employers looking to support the development of their employees and for individuals who are looking for a flexible study route to achieve their CEng status such as Jack and Romeo, two Graduate Engineers at Interfleet Technology Ltd who wanted to progress their careers and become chartered engineers but lacked the qualifications to do so.

Through their employer’s successful working relationship with the University they are now being sponsored to study the MSc Professional Engineering course and are on the way to acquiring their Chartership status.

Romeo said “The course is a great option for me to progress my career as it has been designed to suit full-time working students like myself. It gives me the flexibility to study while staying in my current job with work-based and online learning.”

The course is recognised by a wide range of engineering institutes such as ICE, IMechE and IET through the Engineering Council.

By combining online distance and work based learning, students can achieve the academic qualifications and professional development required to evidence their registration as a Chartered Engineer.

There are key benefits for employers too. By supporting employees on this programme, they can offer a professional development route that can be flexed around employee work commitments and they’ll see an immediate impact as it is designed to address the organisation’s specific requirements.

The programme should improve employee attraction and retention through offering credible and reputable staff development opportunities, and create a talent pool of Chartered Engineers – improving business capacity to bid for larger projects.

The University of Derby Online Learning is one of the UK’s leading providers of online learning. It offers a structured and supported learning environment with teaching by experienced academics that have extensive, up to date industry expertise.

Through debates and collaboration, students from around the world can interact, share their knowledge and skills, thereby enhancing the overall learning experience.
