As an Apprentice, you will already have an insight into how interesting, challenging and rewarding engineering can be. At the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), we want our members to reach their full potential, learn as much as they can about the engineering industry at large, and further their careers for maximum success.
We know that the apprentices of today will be the professionals of tomorrow, and we are here to support you turn your engineering apprenticeship into an engineering career.
While you are an apprentice or are studying an engineering subject at college you can become a member of the Institution for free and benefit from access to our library, careers advice and much much more.
Get recognition and get ahead of the crowd
Did you know that at the end of your advanced or modern engineering apprenticeship, you can apply for professional registration with the IMechE? Professional registration means that we'll assess the skills you've gained on your course and throughout your work experience, and can award you the professional title Engineering Technician (EngTech).

Taking your career even further
A lot of engineers after finishing their apprenticeship decide to go on to study mechanical engineering at university. We know that the transition from work to study can be quite challenging so to make your life easier we provide financial support to apprentices who want to further their career in this way.
Through our Whitworth Scholarship scheme you can apply for scholarships of up to £4,500 each year for the duration of your studies. Find out how to apply.
