Each year, the Institution awards over half a million pounds to members studying mechanical engineering, or working in the profession. Formerly known as Prizes and Awards, these grants to members have recently been re-named Scholarships and Awards. A new online portal and streamlined application process has led to a 25% increase in applicants in just 8 weeks.
The Institution is committed to developing, inspiring and encouraging engineers at every stage in their career, with practical and financial help. We support the educational and development needs of students, graduates and members with grants totalling some £550,000 annually.
Additional financial support for members
The Institution’s Benevolent Fund is launching a new free-to-use Money Advice Service for UK members, featuring:
- Over 100 downloadable fact sheets on financial matters, from debt management, budgeting, bankruptcy, financial planning and credit card pitfalls.
- sample letters for use when dealing with creditors.
- Information on claiming back unreasonable bank charges.
- Email ‘ask a question’ facility on your personal financial situation with a response, usually within 24 hours, from a qualified and impartial financial advisor.
- 24/7 free phone helpline if you wish to discuss your queries with a professional financial advisor.
