The Engineering in Medicine and Health Division (formerly the Medical Engineering Division) was successfully re-launched on 16 June 2009. This new division has an expanded remit and is seeking to further the innovative research and development work that members are currently undertaking in the fields of ageing; food and water; sports; and the built environment, whilst continuing their current successes in robotic surgery, orthopaedics and incontinence technology.
The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) has recognised the need to invest in the health of the population, not only because good health is desirable but also because it is an important determinant of economic growth and competitiveness. This exciting development will provide more possibilities for the IMechE to work on essential issues in medical and health engineering as well as creating greater opportunities for people to enjoy a better quality of life, stay safe and healthy, and grow old gracefully.
