Innovation and the ability to invent and devise new ways of doing things has always been at the heart of Mechanical Engineering. For the second year running IMechE are supporting innovation in the UK by sponsoring the Business Innovation of the Year Award at the National Business Awards.
This Award goes to the organisation that can best demonstrate a proven ability to create, nurture, and develop innovations or processes that substantially improve the commercial performance or prospects of the organisation. Evidence will be sought regarding any design aspects that enabled the innovation to be developed or implemented in a shorter time frame or was integral to enabling the innovation.
In 2008 the award was won by B&K Timber Structures for their expertise in timber and steel engineering. In 2009 it would be great to see the award going to an organisation that can demonstrate how Mechanical Engineering uses innovation to drive commercial performance and develop solutions to practical engineering challenges.
To encourage more engineering entries in the Business Innovation category IMechE have agreed with the organisers a 50% discount on the entry fee until July 23.
