Delivering training for developing engineers

Designed to meet the specific needs of the engineering professions, professional development training courses are a fixture of the Institution’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme.

Short courses are offered throughout the calendar year in management, leadership, business, professional and personal development skills, through collaborative arrangements with expert leaders in the training arena, ensuring that learning is directly relevant to engineering and technical professionals. Courses are held not only in London but also regionally and in-company as a direct response to members’ needs.

The Institution has begun to develop a portfolio of specialist and technical training courses which will meet an engineering market demand for skills training in highly specialised sector areas, where few providers currently exist. Our in-house project team with representatives from CPD and the Engineering Technical Divisions has worked collaboratively to design and deliver this programme of courses.

Annie Davison, CPD & Training Manager commented: “We run a selection of professional development and training courses each month, which have been designed to meet the precise career needs of engineers. In the coming month we are running a series of courses about how to lead engineering project teams, acquiring effective communication and presentation skills and learning the specialist skills needed for project management within Research and Development. The feedback we are receiving on our courses show that our training is trusted by our members, and that we are meeting a real need within the sector.”
