Fostering professionally registered engineers internationally

The Institution is delighted to enjoy a strong partnership with Foster Wheeler in India, working with the company to attract, train and retain highly skilled and talented engineering professionals

Foster Wheeler is a global project management, engineering, procurement and construction contractor. Its Indian operation was initially established in Chennai by the Foster Wheeler Global Power Group in 1998 with a focus on power projects.

Since then, Foster Wheeler India has grown tremendously, not only in size, but in reputation and in the scope of work it executes. Today, the Indian operation is a thriving and integral part of its Global Engineering & Construction (E&C) Group.

In November 2006, Foster Wheeler opened an office in Kolkata, which has also grown very successfully in a short period. In May 2009, the company opened an office in Gurgaon (New Delhi).

Currently, Foster Wheeler India has around 1,450 employees in total based in Chennai, Kolkata and Gurgaon and continues to invest in attracting, training and retaining talented professionals.

The Institution’s relationship with Foster Wheeler India started in 2008 when the then President, William Banks visited the Chennai Office. Since then Foster Wheeler India has been closely associated with this Institution in the UK. To date, twelve employees from Foster Wheeler India have been awarded Associate membership. Recently four employees have been elected as CEng and five employees have been elected as IEng.

Department Manager, Mr GSN Murthy commented: “Partnering with the Institution opens another door to a body of technical knowledge, which is in addition to the huge volume of technical knowledge already available to us within the Foster Wheeler family. Member employees can update themselves with the latest advancements in technology, gain access to different methods of solving technical issues by referring to the various papers submitted by members, access reference materials available online and peruse the informative monthly newsletter.”

“Accreditation by the Institution also provides global recognition for member engineers.”

Steven Gasser, the Senior Business Development Manager for the Institution and the lead on member acquisition programmes in India commented: “The Institution is extremely proud of the partnerships it enjoys with large engineering employers in India, and welcomes the opportunity to assist engineers and technicians to undertake professional development to gain the credentials they need to be able to use their skills and expertise anywhere in the world.”
