Initial Professional Development (IPD) Traditional application routeThe standard application route is aimed at engineers with sufficient professional experience to meet the competency requirements and wish to gain professional registration via CEng, IEng or EngTech.
Monitored Professional Development Scheme (MPDS)The MPDS is aimed at engineers who wish to gain sufficient professional experience to meet the competency requirements for CEng or IEng. Typically, this scheme is suitable for recent graduates or engineers with less than three year experience.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)The CPD service now offers training resources which are for all members of the IMechE and may be appropriate for your further learning towards professional registration.
Professional development continues throughout your working life after professional registration. The Engineering Council states that all professional engineers will keep their competencies and skills up to date through a structured continuing professional development approach. CPD is not mandatory, but is a self-managed approach, and the IMechE does not award points or hours to personal continuing education. The IMechE CPD now provides training opportunities for all members (and non-members), whether or not they are professionally registered. There is also an online recording of CPD, found on the Member Log-in of the IMechE.
