Undergraduates: At the end of your placement and after Graduation
MPDS is about your own professional development and your responsibility. Take control of your career!
When you finish your industrial placement and graduate you have a package of academic qualifications and industrial experience which will set you on the path to becoming a professional engineer.
MPDS is a transferable package which you can continue when you start working after graduation, but you will need to re-register as a graduate, pay registration fees and start using the online system e-MPDS. You must do this within two months of starting work after graduation. Otherwise some of the time spent with that company may not count towards MPDS.
You can continue the membership of IMechE you had as a student, but you should upgrade to Associate, the graduate class of membership. This will confirm whether your academic qualifications meet the requirements for IEng or CEng. You will also need to pay annual subscription fees to maintain your membership. Link to membership pages
Before leaving your placement, make sure that your mentor has signed all of your quarterly and assessment reports. Send a copy of your Assessment Reports to IMechE. You will then show these to your new mentor when you start working after graduation.
It is possible to continue MPDS at an organisation that does not have an accredited scheme, provided you initially completed at least 9 months of MPDS on an accredited scheme.
Please see Change of Company for your transfer form and details.
