The role of the employer in the CPD process
Three key stakeholders of CPD are the individual; the Employer and the wider community. CPD for a professional can be very successful when it is actively supported by the Employer.
Best Practice examples would include:
- Linking CPD objectives with Performance Appraisals and objective setting
- Providing the opportunities for employees to gain experience and new skills.
- Willingness and flexibility to release employees for course attendance and other training opportunities.
- Assisting with counselling and monitoring progress.
- Supporting a Mentoring culture
- Financial support
- Encouraging the CPD mindset
