What is Ambassador Gold?
Ambassador Gold rewards
Young Members for their contribution to the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and its vision 'Improving the world through engineering'. It provides structured guidance and support for Young Members throughout their volunteering life cycle. The primary focus of the scheme is to align volunteer contribution and the skills development opportunities IMechE provides.
Ambassador Gold runs on the notion that if a Young Member commits to volunteering for 100 hours or more through the scheme they will be rewarded and supported for their contribution through the provision of relevant, high quality professional development training. The training will be offered through IMechE's professional development department. Examples of possible training available are:
The training provided is tailored specifically to the needs of engineers and the profession. The enabling skills that are developed will be transferable, supporting volunteers to achieve their 100 + hours whilst at the same time furthering their professional development.
Signing up to Ambassador Gold does not immediately entitle a volunteer to CPD training. Each volunteer is assessed for their needs and if a skills gap is identified training will be considered.
Please note that whilst we endeavour to run training that is beneficial to all on the scheme, Ambassador Gold does have a pre-set training calendar. This training calendar has been designed to meet the needs of current volunteer roles in IMechE.
Who can join?
You are eligible for the scheme if you are:
- An IMechE Young Member
- A volunteer or would like to become a volunteer in an IMechE role or officially supported role
- A volunteer prepared to commit to 100 hours or more of volunteering per year
Benefits
Professional development is the primary benefit of the Ambassador Gold scheme. It is essential to recognise that the skills gained during volunteer time and the training on offer are directly related to the ECUK competencies C, D and E. This is demonstrated in the
skills comparison chart. Whether the volunteer efforts contribute directly to the competencies or strengthen skills that are required to meet the competencies, it is quite clear that there is a strong transferability element throughout. This is further demonstrated in the
case studies provided by current active members.
