Queen Mary FS team celebrate historic milestone

Fresh from a new round of team recruitment and having met the judges at Learn to Win in October, Queen Mary University's Formula Student team share their latest updates.

Queen Mary Formula Student lies at the forefront of Queen Mary University’s Engineering and Automotive talent. Having reorganized this year, the team now has more members than they have ever had before and comprises of 43 individuals across the university who are all fully committed to delivering a race car next year to compete in Formula Student at Silverstone Circuit in 2017.

This has already led to some great successes ahead of Christmas: for the first time in the history of Queen Mary Formula Student, the team have managed to get their engine started with a new ECU from DTAfast last Friday. This is a really big step as their team has never come to this point before and is one step closer to getting a car running for the competition.

Here's the electrifying moment as it happened!
qmfs_engine_smallSo after this milestone what's next for QMFS? The team will soon mount the engine and several other parts on to the chassis and complete the tuning of the engine. Other projects currently in the works include the manufacturing of the fuel tank and the intake manifold, as well as working on various other parts of the car.

It's not been smooth sailing however. One obstacle they have to deal with is that the rooms they are currently located in on campus are going to be refurbished and they need to move everything out and relocate by the end of term. However according Nina Mangold, the team's Head of Marketing, the team remains upbeat and optimistic:

"We strongly believe that we are going to make it to Silverstone this year. We have worked hard to get where we are now but we still need to push far to get where we want to go. We are not yet at Silverstone but we have already made history."

Congratulations to QMFS and we hope to see them on the track next July!
