Facility aims to tackle 'new challenges faced by the automotive industry'

Millbrook Group, the independent vehicle test, validation and engineering service provider, has officially opened its four-wheel drive climatic emissions chassis dynamometer.

The facility operates at temperatures between −20°C and +50°C and is used to measure vehicle emissions, CO2, fuel consumption, electric consumption and range, and climatic performance of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles under repeatable conditions.

It includes a high performance fully transient four-wheel drive 48” chassis dynamometer along with the latest advanced emissions system for measuring regulated and unregulated pollutants. It is suitable for gasoline, diesel, LPG, CNG, hybrid, electric and hydrogen vehicles, and is compliant with current and known future European Federal and Japanese light duty emissions regulations.

Millbrook Group president Alex Burns stressed the importance of independent and impartial testing and said that the Millbrook Group is “gearing up to tackle the new challenges faced by the automotive industry”.

Burns added: “This is an important new facility to aid the ever more challenging testing requirements of vehicle manufacturers in the UK.”

Phil Stones, chief engineer of the Millbrook Group's Powertrain team, said: “We are delighted to have the facility officially open, and will be welcoming a number of customers on site in the coming weeks. Alongside the new engine test cells, the new facility marks a year of significant investment and increased capabilities for the Powertrain team. We now look to 2020 and beyond as we prepare for further expansion.”
