Two companies have pledged to bring electric vehicle (EV) charging to “everywhere drivers live, work, and play” in the UK, with plans to install 150 points in the next year.
A spokesman revealed the figure to Professional Engineering after “facility solutions” firm ABM UK announced an agreement with charging network ChargePoint to distribute, install and maintain its chargers.
ABM will install the charging points across the UK, the spokesman said. ChargePoint builds several different chargers, including ultra-fast points for transport hubs and models for workplaces and shopping areas. The company’s products include the ultra-fast 400kW Express Plus charger, which offers up to 2,559km range per hour of charging, down to slower 22kW ports with 140km range per hour.
There are no contracts to install at petrol stations, but the spokesman said ABM is “open” to it in future. There are also no details available on wireless charging stations, he added.
“The UK's EV infrastructure market has huge growth potential, and it's an area that ABM UK wants to be an integral part of, and have a say in shaping the future of,” said Jason Pease, technical solutions managing director for ABM.
After a decade of operation, there are more than 42,000 ChargePoint locations around the world. The company has “a firm commitment to help build the most comprehensive network of EV charging in Europe,” said Chris Burghardt, managing director for ChargePoint in Europe.
