Accreditation helps CDE Global attract graduates

CDE Global, a provider of washing equipment for quarries, mines and recycling operations, is using accreditation to help it attract graduates.

The company, which has its headquarters in Northern Ireland, has launched a recruitment drive to help grow its engineering team in the areas of technical, project design and product development.

As part of the campaign, staff from CDE Global attended a number of events at UK and international universities, including Queen’s University Belfast and the University of Ulster.

According to senior executives at CDE Global, the company’s close association with the Institution has already provided great benefits for its engineers. They also believe that the Institution’s accreditation of CDE Global’s training and development programme – and the international recognition and respect that it commands – supports the company’s international recruitment plans.

The company has held accreditation since 2009. According to Brian McCullough FIMechE, Head of Talent and Organisational Development at CDE Global, this has been a very important part of ensuring that the company is able to attract and retain the best new engineering talent available.

Brian said: “The growth we have enjoyed in recent years has required that we continue to grow our engineering team across technical, project design and product development. The accreditation from the Institution for our development process ensures that we are able to attract the high performance people that we need as we continue to expand our global coverage and our product range.”

The Institution has been working closely with the company to help its staff further develop their engineering expertise and was pleased to support its latest graduate recruitment drive.

President-Elect of the Institution, Richard Folkson, Business Development Manager (NI), Farah Baksh as well as Vice Chairman and Education Officer (NI), David Burns, recently visited the company to lend their support to the initiative.

During the visit they met members of the company’s senior management team as well as several engineers currently enrolled on the Monitored Professional Development Scheme (MPDS) and working towards Incorporated Engineer (IEng) and Chartered Engineer (CEng) accreditation.

The visit was a continuation of the support Farah had been providing to CDE Global’s employees on-site, through its company-based professional registration scheme. The on-site scheme has been convenient for the company as it has meant that staff membership interviews have been able to take place at their offices, rather than at the Institution’s HQ in London.

During the visit, the President-Elect also met with Tony Convery FIMechE, Chairman and Founder of CDE Global, who commented: “The recognition of our professional development systems by the Institution is evidence of our commitment to our people and our customers. It is only by continually investing in our people and helping them to be the very best that they can be that we are able to deliver processing systems of unrivalled efficiency for our customers. This approach is central to our vision to become the number one washing equipment company in every country in the world.”

CDE Global has created more than 50 high-value manufacturing jobs in Northern Ireland in the last two years. Over the next 12 months the company expects to create a further 20 new jobs. While the majority of these will be based in Northern Ireland, the company is also recruiting internationally, building regional teams in target export markets. Over the coming years, the key focus is to develop the business across Europe, as well as in Australia, Africa, North America and Latin America.

Brian McCullough said: “The international recognition of the IMechE is definitely an advantage in recruitment. The Institution commands a huge amount of respect, and our association with the IMechE helps us to get noticed when we’re looking for new people.”

Speaking about his visit to CDE Global, Richard Folkson said: “It is very encouraging for UK plc to see that dynamic companies like CDE are enjoying export success by manufacturing in the UK. It is proof that significant value can be added to the UK economy through supporting the growth of indigenous manufacturing companies with a focus on high value engineering.”
