Kevin Rayment (KR): I designed, manage and set the direct for Network Rail’s mandated process for how suppliers design reliability into every new and changed controlled products. This includes consideration of product life and whole life cost of ownership.

What do you see as the key priorities for engineers faced with this challenge?

KR: To consider product life as early in the design process as possible.

What new strategies or projects in asset management do you think have the potential to change things for the better?

KR: Three things: design for reliability, consider whole life cost and reliability-centred maintenance.

What are the risks for organisations who don’t take a proactive approach?

KR: There are several risks:

  • High costs of ownership
  • Poorer environmental impact
  • Lower reliability
  • Safety risks
  • Lower customer satisfaction

What motivates you to organise this event?

KR: I have a lot of knowledge in this area and believe it is particularly relevant now in times of increasing costs due to inflationary pressures.

Which topics or speakers are you most looking forward to?

KR: I'm looking forward to anything on the programme that proves to be novel, well thought out and applicable.

Why is it so important for engineers to come together at this conference?

KR: It provides ways engineers can save money and improve asset performance for their businesses.
