International recognition
Recognising engineering professionals around the globe
The Institution currently represents engineers in 137 countries worldwide. Understanding that engineering is a truly international discipline, the Institution uses its considerable expertise to help engineers who are based outside the UK.
Membership of the Institution enables engineers and technicians to benefit from international recognition for their professional skills, to be able to work freely within a global market-place.
Membership means that overseas-based engineers and technicians can interact with experts across the globe to solve the problems faced in their projects and for implementing innovative methods. The Institution serves as a platform to facilitate the exchange of technical knowledge and experience among the mechanical engineering fraternity, while also promoting professional innovation and excellence.
For prequalification of high value international projects, Institution membership will vouch for the knowledge and competency level of the engineering team earmarked by a company.
After the completion of an international project, clients may insist on the certification of the work by a member of an internationally recognised body. Institution membership gives engineers or technicians based outside the UK the internationally recognised professional credentials they would need to undertake this.
The Institution is an international gateway to engineers wishing to work throughout the world and its membership is considered an international professional passport.
