How to apply

There is something for you at the Institution whether you are a student, apprentice, graduate, qualified engineer or just have an interest in engineering.

Senior engineers - Fellows

Anyone who is eligible to be or is already registered as EngTech, IEng or CEng can apply to become a Fellow, providing you can show leadership qualities or specialist engineering knowledge as well as a commitment and passion to the engineering profession. Fellows can use the letters FIMechE after their name.

Professional engineers - CEng, IEng and EngTech

Our Member grade is for professionally registered engineers and has three separate classes that recognise different levels of knowledge and skill. All members receive the letters MIMechE after their name.

Graduates - Associates

Graduates with a suitable degree in engineering or a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subject can become Associate members. Our Associates gain the letters AMIMechE after their name.

Students & apprentices - Affiliates

Students and apprentices can join for free as Affiliates. You don't need any engineering qualifications but still receive many of our member benefits.
