Alternative Qualifications

Alternatives to IMechE-accredited degrees that are considered suitable for Membership and registration without the need for further assessment by IMechE include:

• Washington and Sydney Accord accredited degrees
• Degrees accredited by other Professional Engineering Institutions, listed by the Engineering Council.

Engineering Council exams for CEng provide a structured format for meeting the necessary academic benchmarks but are not an exemplifying route to registration. PLEASE NOTE: If your first degree is not accredited, and you undertake Engineering Council exams as part of your Further Learning this will need to be assessed on an individual basis to ensure that their content is relevant.

IMechE will accept qualifications listed as accredited by the relevant signatories to the Washington and Sydney Accords. The Washington Accord is for CEng-level qualifications and the Sydney Accord is for IEng-level qualifications.

• Canada
• Hong Kong
• Ireland
• New Zealand
• South Africa
• Australia
• USA (Washington Accord only)
• Japan (Washington Accord only)
