Loans

IMechE Members may borrow books from Library loan stock. Post-1955 printed books, standards and all IMechE publications are available for borrowing. Library services are also offered to members of the ICE, IET, EI, IMarEST, IOM3, IStructE, RAeS and TWI. Loans may be by post on condition that we receive reimbursement of postage. We have three set rates for postage of £3, £5 and £8, which are applied according to the weight of items sent out. We send an invoice for the payment of postage.

A maximum of 6 books may be borrowed for a loan period of 3 weeks. Loans are renewable by telephone and an additional 4 loan periods (total 15 weeks) may be available. Failure to return an item after the maximum loan period of 15 weeks will result in a charge of the cost of replacement, or £75, whichever is greater. This service is available to Members resident in European Union countries.

If a particular book or item is not in IMechE library stock, inter-library loans can be requested. As of the 1st April 2009, the charges for loans via the British Library are:

£14 for an interlibrary book loan,
£14 for the supply of a paper for non-commercial use, and
£20 for the supply of a paper for commercial use.

Failure to return a British Library loan will incur a charge of £130.

Document Supply

A document supply service is available to Members and the public. Photocopies can be faxed or posted worldwide. Our photocopy charges are given below (prices exclude VAT):

Commercial rate per paper:

Members £15 / Non-Members £20

Members can be invoiced for payment but Non-Members need to pay in advance by phone, fax or email using a Visa or Mastercard.

We have made our copyright declaration form available in order that it can be printed, signed and faxed or posted to us. However, we advise that it is best to confirm availability and price by telephoning or emailing us with your request in the first instance.
