Smallpeice Trust

Established for more than 40 years, The Smallpeice Trust is an independent educational charity that runs hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) activities and exciting engineering courses for pupils in Years 6 – 12.  They also deliver Teacher Training Days to bring STEM to life in the classroom.

Residential courses take place at universities and other inspiring venues and are available to students in Years 9 – 12.  They all offer young, aspiring engineers the chance to connect with professionals and technical specialists and help to develop essential skills like problem solving and team work.

By working in partnership with industry, institutions, educational establishments and the government, The Smallpeice Trust believes that it can enhance young peoples’ perception of engineering as a worthwhile and dynamic career.

Why members have got involved

Ed Hall, Graduate Engineer SIEMENS

"As a previous pupil on STEM courses, I fully appreciate the experience that the Smallpeice Trust gives to potential Engineering students . The courses they run gave me a real insight into the world of Engineering , encouraging me

to pursue a highly engaging and rewarding career. I hope through volunteering with them, I can encourage and help more young people into the profession."

Hannah Pearlman

Powertrain Systems, Aston Martin Lagonda

"I was first introduced to The Smallpeice Trust as a student participating in a course, suffice to say I loved it and I believe that it is thanks in part to the Smallpeice Trust that I have continued to pursue Engineering.  I continued to participate in courses until I left school at 18, when I gained a place on a gap year course also run by The Trust.  It was following this that I was asked if I would like to return to help on a course as a mentor.  I was delighted to be asked and proceeded to act as a mentor a number of times and recently I returned as a Company Representative to facilitate a project for the students on an Engineering Experience course.

I am incredibly grateful to all the people from the Trust, the mentors and facilitators that helped me so it is the least I can do to give back and hopefully encourage other young people to consider Engineering; without people doing this I would not be where I am now.  However, it is perhaps the atmosphere and attitude of the students that, above all, keep me coming back as the courses are always great fun, the students are fantastic and their enthusiasm is catching!"

Becky Broadbent

"Being involved with The Smallpeice Trust is a fantastic opportunity to use my engineering knowledge to enthuse an inspire the next generation of engineers.  I have been lucky enough to work on several residential courses and I am amazed every time at how focused and innovative the students are.  I have always come away from each course having learnt something myself!"
